What is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer's Elbow - medically known as medial epicondylitis - is a condition that causes pain and inflammation on the inside of the elbow, where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the medial epicondyle (the bony bump on the inside of the elbow). Despite its name, golfer's elbow isn't exclusive to golfers. It can affect anyone who repetitively uses their forearm or wrist, leading to micro-tears and irritation of the tendons. Pain may also radiate into the forearm, leading to pain, stiffness, weakness, and difficulty gripping or lifting objects.

Why Does Golfer's Elbow Happen?

Golfer's elbow typically develops due to overuse and repetitive strain, but several factors can contribute to its onset:

  • Repetitive Movements - Sports like golf, tennis, or baseball, as well as activities like typing, painting, or using tools, can strain the forearm muscles and tendons.
  • Poor Technique or Ergonomics - Improper posture or technique during sports or repetitive tasks can increase stress on the elbow joint.
  • Muscle Imbalances - Weal or tight forearm, wrist, or shoulder muscles can lead to compensation and improper movement patterns, contributing to tendon strain.
  • Overuse Without Recovery - Performing repetitive motions without adequate rest can lead to micro-tears and chronic inflammations of the tendons.
  • Pre-existing Conditions - Conditions like arthritis or metabolic imbalances can exacerbate inflammation and slow tendon healing.

How Can We Help at Arthrology Chiropractic?

At Arthrology Chiropractic, we focus on treating Golfer's Elbow by addressing both the symptoms and the root causes. This helps you heal faster and prevent future flare-ups.

Our Approach Includes:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments - Gentle adjustments to the elbow, wrist, shoulder, and spine to restore proper alignment, reduce strain on the tendons, and improve biomechanics.
  • Soft Tissue Therapy - Techniques like myofascial release and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) to break down adhesions, improve circulation, and relieve tension in the forearm muscles.
  • Acupuncture & Dry Needling - Targeted therapies to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and stimulate the body's natural healing response.
  • Corrective Exercises & Stretching - Customized programs to strengthen forearm, wrist, and shoulder muscles while improving flexibility and movement patterns.
  • Ergonomic & Movement Assessments - Evaluations to identify improper techniques, postural habits, or workplace ergonomics that may be contributing to your elbow pain.
